Written after a breakup, Youthfire wanted to write a song that reflected his my own personal experiences of coming out, whilst exploring themes around transition and evolution, and the importance of being true to yourself.
“Hallucinate is a song that I’ve lived with for the last two years. At the time, I began watching every single LGBTIQA+ movie that I could find. I stumbled across the film “Edge Of Seventeen” (1998) and related with the main protagonist and the experiences he went through in coming out. This had a profound affect on me, inspiring me to write the track.”
lyrics
You, you leave me alone
you are, trapped in a memory
every night, I feel it the same
Your voice, calling my name
Thoughts, flood my mind
I can "feel the rhythm, unfolding again"
Chorus
You, you told me to run away
You, you told me to turn away
Run away,
run away, turn away, run away. Turn away, run away,
run away, turn away, run away. Turn away, run away,
Verse 2
I should have sensed it
The moment you came near
But I was drifting above
Unaware that you were down here
Shaking hands
I inject your love
you became a memory that I would fear
its like I hallucinate
its like I hallucinate
You, you told me to run away
You, you told me to turn away
Run away,
run away, turn away, run away. Turn away, run away,
run away, turn away, run away. Turn away, run away,

Youthfire is the moniker of Melbourne based singer-songwriter and producer, Stephen Carmichael, who shares stories about his personal life through compositions that have a warped sense of New Wave, 80’s nostalgia.
